Spiritual warfare: know the enemy

Jesus said signs follow those who believe: in His name they cast out devils. Deliverance is part of the ordinary ministry of believers, not a specialist rite.

• The authority is in the name of Jesus, not in the minister's personality or technique.
• Deliverance flows from salvation, repentance and obedience to the Word.
• Every believer may pray for freedom for themselves and their household.

Christ disarmed principalities and powers at the cross; believers stand in His victory and resist the devil from a position of submission to God.

• Submit to God first, then resist the devil.
• Speak with authority, not fear: the enemy is defeated, not equal.
• Put on the whole armour of God daily.

A believer can confess sin, renounce known ground and command unclean influences to leave in Jesus' name, then fill the cleansed house with the Word and the Spirit.

• Honesty: confess known sin specifically.
• Forgive everyone, including yourself.
• Renounce occult involvement and ungodly vows by name.
• Command in Jesus' name; expel with breath and prayer as led.
• Fill the house: Word, worship, fellowship and obedience (Matthew 12:43-45).

Unconfessed sin, unforgiveness and occult involvement give the enemy place. Confession and renunciation remove that ground.

• Give no place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27).
• Name the door: unforgiveness, occult practice, sexual sin, rebellion, ungodly oaths.
• Confess, renounce, and receive cleansing by the blood of Jesus.

Father, I confess every known door I opened. I renounce it in Jesus' name and close it by His blood. I cancel every right the enemy claimed through it. Amen.

Christ became a curse for us. Believers confess family iniquity and renounce its inheritance while claiming the blessing of Abraham in Christ.

• Confess your own and your fathers' iniquity (Leviticus 26:40).
• Renounce occult dedications and secret oaths in the family line.
• Declare redemption from the curse through Christ.

Lord Jesus, You became a curse for me. I confess the iniquity of my forefathers and renounce every curse, oath and dedication over my bloodline. I receive the blessing of Abraham through faith in You. Amen.

Ungodly unions, controlling relationships and covenants outside God's will create bonds that are renounced and cut in Jesus' name.

• Repent of sexual sin and ungodly covenants.
• Forgive the other person; release them to God.
• Return any gifts or tokens tied to ungodly covenants as led.

In Jesus' name I renounce every ungodly soul tie. I forgive and release each person to You, Lord, and I take back every part of my soul given in sin. Amen.

Jesus gave the keys of the kingdom: bind the strongman, loose captives, and enforce His victory in prayer.

• Bind the strongman before taking spoil.
• Loose the oppressed into God's peace and purpose.

In the name of Jesus I bind every strongman assigned against me and my household, and I loose us into the liberty of Christ. Amen.

After warfare prayer, believers cover themselves, their families and possessions with the blood of Jesus and the protection of Psalm 91.

• Pray covering before and after ministry.
• Stand in peace; do not fear backlash.

Father, I cover myself, my family and all You have entrusted to me with the blood of Jesus. No weapon formed against us shall prosper. Amen.

Rejection, self-rejection and rebellion are addressed by receiving acceptance in the Beloved and choosing single-minded obedience.

• Receive acceptance in Christ.
• Renounce self-condemning vows.

Resentment, unforgiveness, anger and retaliation are uprooted by forgiveness and kindness.

• Forgive from the heart.
• Release vengeance to God.

God has not given a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind; perfect love casts out fear.

• Replace fearful words with the Word.
• Seek practical help when distress persists.

Confusion and passivity are resisted by renewing the mind and actively taking thoughts captive to Christ.

• Take every thought captive.
• Choose active obedience over passivity.

• Bring particular offences before God and choose to release vengeance to Him.
• Confess bitterness and ask for grace to forgive from the heart.
• Forgiveness does not require approving wrongdoing or returning to an unsafe relationship.

Father, I bring my hurt and resentment before You. I choose to forgive those who wronged me and release vengeance to You. Forgive my bitterness and help me walk in kindness and truth. In Jesus' name, I renounce resentment and receive Your peace. Amen.

The warfare chapter calls believers to stand in God's strength, clothed in the armour described in Ephesians 6 rather than fighting people.

• Stand in truth, righteousness and the readiness of the gospel of peace.
• Take up faith, salvation and the Word of God against the enemy's schemes.
• Pray with perseverance for all saints; people are not the enemy.

Father, strengthen me in the Lord and in His mighty power. Clothe me in truth and righteousness; establish my feet in the gospel of peace. I take the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, Your Word. Help me stand and pray faithfully today. Amen.

• Identify specific agreements made under pressure that conflict with obedience to Christ.

• Renounce control and seek freedom to act in truth and love; receiving professional care is not an ungodly bond.
